about

I still remember the day I bought this Yamaha PSR-3500 keyboard. I had saved money for it during a few years, and had even sold my Commodore 64 to be able to afford it (so no more Giana Sisters...). I especially remember when I and my mum carried it from the music shop "Musikbörsen" through the city of Linköping and brought it with us on the bus home, as we didn't own a car. During a few years, it was my main piece of gear and my companion in life; I knew every button, every sound, every drum sample by heart.

I didn't have any MIDI setup, so all parts were played live, and I layered different tracks using tape-recorders and the built-in recording option on the keyboard. The built-in recording option allowed for recording at slower speeds, so if I had a complicated part I recorded it slowly and then sped it up. It was also possible to program three different drum patterns on the keyboard.

At the time being, I was sometimes frustrated by my limited possibilities of programming and recording the music professionally, and I never approached any record labels with this music (though two tracks were played as "demo of the week" on a local radio program for electronic music). Today, I'm struggling to make my music sound more organic and less clinical and perfect, so revisiting these amateurish but emotional and vivid tracks has felt inspiring, and something I want to share.

Three of the tracks on this little EP collection later turned out to be the foundation for Sally Shapiro tracks. Electric Husky became Forget About You, Nobody's Samoyed became Sad City (though in the end only the chords are the common denominator), and Cooper's Postscript became Postscript.
